Press release

Witzenhausen celebrates its 800th anniversary with a spectacular festival weekend

"Seyed welcome!" - Witzenhausen celebrates the time when the town was founded 800 years ago with aventuria and medieval hustle and bustle :-)
A real family festival with hand-picked stands and attractions for young and old. Aventurias by the best artists of the medieval scene, fire spectacles as well as the stalls of craftsmen and traders offer a medieval hustle and bustle of the very best. Families and children in particular are the focus, as the motto is "Experience the Middle Ages".

"We are gearing our medieval festival towards families," says the organizing team and medieval specialists Poeta Magica. "The visitors and especially the children should look, marvel and participate: For example, children can make their own wooden swords, paint, felt themselves and much more. There is also a fire show for children and numerous play stands. Especially for children, but also for all adults, there is the fairytale yurt with stories and fairytales from all over the world.

The medieval market impresses with hand-picked stalls, traders and lots of displays and demonstrations. You can marvel at old, bygone crafts: the paper maker, the turner, a knight making bows, bead weaving and much more. You can buy goodies for your own home in the grocer's mile: Handmade wooden items, homemade soap, garments and silver jewelry, embroidered items and much more. The medieval market also invites you to take part in other activities: game stands provide plenty of entertainment and you can take a ride on the Viking carousel.

A varied gastronomic offer with medieval delicacies awaits visitors. There is a barbecue, delicious flamed salmon, waffles and, of course, many vegetarian and vegan dishes such as oriental falafel and potato pancakes.
Throughout the market, you can sample delicious mead and medieval beer specialties such as cherry beer and mead beer. Aengus McLeod has even traveled from Scotland to serve his mead and whiskey. The focal point on the market square is the large tavern, which is the best place to linger until late at night.

Fairy tales, mead & the sound of minne
Music, juggling and fire are of course a must at a medieval festival - but in Witzenhausen the best performers come together! The market is packed with artistic attractions:

Special attention will be paid to melodious musical entertainment, with renowned medieval artists such as "Des Geyers schwarzer Haufen", and "Gugelhupf" delighting the audience with their authentic music.
Minnesong will be performed in an authentic way by minstrel Knud on harp and hurdy-gurdy. The traveling English troubadours "GreenMatthews" and the music-making animal "Nashoch Himilsanc" will take you back to ancient times with their sounds.
A special highlight on Saturday night is the concert by the international ensemble "Poeta Magica" with their medieval-world-music!

A fire show, jugglers and storytellers will also find their way to beautiful Witzenhausen. Juggler "Narrenkai" will delight the audience with his comedy juggling and ingenious improvisations. For the young and young at heart, "Timelino" - the master of juggling and fire! The highlight is the legendary duo "Aptus Ludus" - in their inimitable style, they delight the crowd with incredible juggling and also let them take part before they grab fire and flame!

In the fairytale tent you will find stories and legends from all over the world with the storyteller "Shadia" and at the market "Kaija Elfenfee " strolls through the alleys with her harp.
while "Terry the Bard" at the tavern creates a relaxed atmosphere with his songs.
The medieval market in Witzenhausen offers a rich program for everyone and will take every visitor into the fascinating world of the Middle Ages. Come along and immerse yourself in a world full of adventure and historical flair!
